The trailer opens with a powerful question-and-answer question: "Have you ever wondered why everyone left behind?" in the scene where Mr. Sang (Thai Hoa) burned Nhi's daughter's (Trinh Thao) clothes, while Mrs. Hai Xi-men ( Meritorious Artist Kim Phuong) could only know it in a quiet, sad way. The suffocating atmosphere flared up when Nhi was discovered to have secretly been a "cam girl" (a livestreamer, a broadcaster for money). The misunderstanding piled up, causing Mr. Sang to "show off" Ms. Be Gai (Le Phuong) in a moment of anger.
This slapping scene became the highlight of the trailer. Thai Hoa revealed that he slapped the real person to keep the character's emotions. "After that, Phuong was surprised, all the emotions flooded up very real," he said. Le Phuong added: At that time, it was more than 3am, filming at night for many consecutive days, I was tired and left. After Mr. Hoa slapped, I woke up, "the fire exploded into the sky", it was so painful that I didn't need to act."
With the theme of family love and father-son relationships, The Southern War depicts the conflicts, love and pain in Vietnamese families. Thai Hoa shared: "Maybe I was wrong, but when I lowered my ego, I was strong enough to be a friend and share with my child." Le Phuong said that the character of Mr. Sang "is cung but loves my child, it's just that I don't know how to express it".
Besides Thai Hoa and Le Phuong, the film also features Trinh Thao, Meritorious Artist Kim Phuong, People's Artist Thanh Nam, Tieu Bao Quoc, Tran Nham, Ngoc Trai, Phuc An, Dau Tay, Bao Nam...
