On the evening of November 22, the painting and installation exhibition "A hundred years of counting the square" by artist Doan Hoang Kien was held in Hanoi.
The exhibition displays 30 large-sized paintings on Do bao paper on tarpaulins, ink, color... and more than 2,000 pieces of hanging symbols with 318 round mirrors with surface figures, lighting and Yin-yang items for a small arrangement, but the system dominates the exhibition space.

Sharing at the exhibition, Mr. Luong Xuan Doan - Chairman of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association commented that artist Doan Hoang Kien's art has long been capable of stimulating many reflections. He believes that Doan Hoang Kien does not follow the familiar concept in Asian aesthetics, but chooses another way of thinking, even full of challenges and sacrifices.
According to him, Doan Hoang Kien's works show a spirit of daring to overcome prejudices, daring to question the values of "sphere-round", "sky- Earth", things that seem unchanged. Doan Hoang Kien forces viewers to face new considerations of the times, touching on very human and very practical issues.

Mr. Luong Xuan Doan believes that Doan Hoang Kien is a brave artist in the new generation, daring to say things that the previous generation of artists may not be bold enough to touch. It is this recklessness that creates Kien's own value: he does not need anyone to understand everything, as long as those who are " fateful" with the work will find their own answer.
He emphasized that Doan Hoang Kien's journey is a strong reminder: each individual must be confident in living and being creative in this turbulent era.

Sharing about his 3rd solo exhibition "A hundred years counting the square", artist Doan Hoang Kien said: "I started this project in 2020 at a small room in Ha Dong - where I live and work at the invitation of a precious artist while I was facing difficulties due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the passing of my father-in-law, the venerable teacher Le Dai, and I myself had to be hospitalized twice in a wheelchair... From what I have learned, researched, and inherited from the text platform, the ideological system of Am Duong Ngu Hanh that he left behind, I have continued and conveyed, creating with visual language that has now gradually taken shape, connecting legends with modern science, physical quantity, the universe for art, through art, expressing and sharing with everyone the world".
Not only stopping at exhibition, artist Doan Hoang Kien also edited a 208-page bilingual art book as an item of gratitude to the teacher and as a way to preserve the entire creative process of this important period.
At the exhibition, the artist expressed his gratitude to his family, friends, scholars, architects, researchers and volunteers. At the same time, he said that the money from selling books at the exhibition will be used by him to donate to support people affected by storms and floods.

Doan Hoang Kien was born in 1970 in Hanoi, in a family with an artistic tradition. Before becoming a visual artist, he was a famous circus artist, winning the Special Prize at the 16th Paris International Circus Festival with the performance "Sword on the scale".
The accident of falling from a height of 7.5 m forced him to leave the stage, but also opened a new journey.
