On the evening of January 11, Saigon International University (SIU) held the SIU Prize Computer Science award ceremony, an award honoring Vietnamese and Vietnamese-origin talents around the world with outstanding doctoral theses in the field of computer science.
The inaugural SIU Prize Computer Science attracted more than 100 nominations from 19 countries, with outstanding work in AI, big data, cybersecurity, telecommunications, IoT, and bioinformatics.
Dr. Tran Hoang Dung's excellent doctoral thesis on "Testing self-learning virtual reality systems", successfully defended in 2020 at Vanderbilt University, USA, was awarded first prize.
Mr. Dung is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Information Technology, University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
According to the expert council, his research has built a solid mathematical foundation along with new algorithms to test the safety of neural networks and automated systems.
The practical applications of this work are extremely broad, ensuring the safety and sustainability of advanced technologies such as self-driving cars, drones and deep neural networks, becoming an important foundation in the field of modern computing.
Second prize was awarded to the thesis of Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Vice President of Research and Development at Fasikl Company, Minnesota, USA.
The thesis "High-precision bioelectric neural interface towards human-machine symbiosis" by Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan opens a new era by helping amputees control prosthetics with lifelike dexterity through neural interface.
