The film takes place in the context of Saigon in the period of 1984-85, when the city was preparing to enter the period of renovation.
Actress Ngo Hong Ngoc shared that as soon as she entered the character's apartment, "the atmosphere of the old days was very clear". Do Thi Hai Yen also said that all of her ideas about the character "had to be true" just when sitting in Ky Nam's small kitchen. Every item, color, and interior are designed according to the character's personality, instead of recreating the image of Saigon in the 80s.

Director Leon Quang Le is considered by the cast to be a person who pursues perfection to every detail. Lien Binh Phat said: "In Leon's dictionary, there is no word "if possible". I only film when everything is really perfect. It is that meticulousness that makes the studio a "gateway to 1985", helping the actor fully immerse himself in it.
Quan Ky Nam revolves around the relationship between Khang (Lien Binh Phat) - a young translator - and Ky Nam (Do Thi Hai Yen), an older woman who works as a rice cook. Reflections on the letter and the times brought two seemingly strange people together, in the simple but vibrant life of the Saigon apartment complex.
The film is scheduled to premiere on November 28, 2025.
