After the success of "Fatherland House", Huynh Lap continues to exploit the family theme, combining spiritual and humorous elements. The director said he wants to build a story where audiences of all ages can find their own images through the characters.
The role of Mr. Thoi - the person he has retired from and is the central character of the film - is played by Meritorious Artist Cao Minh. Huynh Lap revealed that the male artist agreed to participate immediately after hearing the script idea. According to the director, right from the first meeting, he felt that Meritorious Artist Cao Minh was the most suitable image for the character. For his part, Meritorious Artist Cao Minh said that he carries emotions and admiration for the generation of his fathers, those who have contributed to the country, to complete the role.
Meanwhile, Cody Nam Vo was chosen for the role of Tri Binh after the actor selection process. Huynh Lap assessed that the male actor possesses youthful, innocent energy and is suitable for the character's image. Cody also said that he sympathizes with Tri Binh - a passionate, impulsive person but gradually growing up after experience.
Notably, Huynh Lap does not take on the main role but plays Hoang Quan - the character who connects the story lines. Tin Nguyen plays Thao Lien, a volunteer who understands history. She said that the character has many differences from herself but brings empathy because the story about war memories reminds of her grandfather in real life.
The film also gathers a familiar on-screen couple, Hua Vi Van and Hong Anh, in the roles of Mr. and Mrs. Hoa - Ms. Dung. The two characters are built as a bridge between generations in the family. Besides, singer Phuong Thanh plays Ms. Huong - a funeral caretaker, who has the ability to connect with the spiritual world, while actor Xuan Phuc transforms into Mr. Thoi's comrade in wartime.
