Doctors at 108 Central Military Hospital have just saved the life of a patient stabbed by a metal foreign object through his neck, past his trachea, endangering his life.

On August 3, 2025, patient T.V.S (49 years old, residing in Bac Ninh) was transferred to the Emergency Department, 108 Central Military Hospital in critical condition: difficulty breathing, with a deep iron nail in his left neck, causing serious damage. Previously, while stretching the construction rope, the rope bounced strongly, causing the steel nail to fall on the patient's neck.

After initial first aid at the lower level, the patient was quickly taken to the 108 Central Military Hospital. Here, doctors performed emergency care according to the emergency procedure: oxygen supply, pain relief, foreign object fixation, neck- chest CT scan. The results showed that the foreign object passed through the wall of the tracheal soi and the area passing through the vein in the see - a complex lesion, directly threatening the patient's life.

Doctor Dam Dung, Emergency Department, 108 Central Military Hospital, said: Assessing the critical condition, the emergency team urgently coordinated with the Thoracic Surgery Doctor to take the patient to the operating room. The surgery was performed urgently, the doctors removed the foreign object, restored the tracheal chart and treated the agoic vein damage. Thanks to timely coordination, the patient was out of danger and is recovering at the Thoracic Surgery Department.

Doctors recommend: In case of a foreign object stabbed in the neck, absolutely do not remove the foreign object on the spot. The foreign object location should be kept intact, fixed with a clean straw, quickly call an ambulance and take the patient to a specialized medical facility for proper treatment, avoiding the risk of death from bleeding, airway obstruction or infection.
