The rare case was successfully treated by doctors at the National Children's Hospital in coordination with Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital when a foreign object was discovered in the vaginal cavity of an 8-year-old girl - a difficult-to-discovery location with unusual initial symptoms.
The child was admitted to the hospital in a state of frequent vomiting, of unknown cause. Initially, the abdominal ultrasound did not record any abnormalities, but due to prolonged vomiting, the doctor ordered an X-ray. The results showed suspected signs of a digestive foreign object. However, both the gas and rectal endoscopy did not detect any foreign objects.
For unclear signs, doctors have expanded the diagnosis direction and suspected that the foreign object may be in the genitals. After careful examination, they discovered a foreign object in the vaginal cavity - an uncommon location, especially in young children.
Immediately, the patient was transferred to Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. MSc. Dr. Le Thi Hieu - the person who directly examined the baby - performed the procedure to safely remove the foreign object, without causing further harm to the baby.
Doctors say that this is a situation that can be easily overlooked if not careful, because the initial symptoms are not directly related to the genitals. This is a warning to parents to pay attention, clean the children's private parts properly and remind them not to arbitrarily put foreign objects on their bodies. When seeing unusual signs such as inflammation, prolonged abdominal pain, or unusual manifestations, take the child to a specialized medical facility for timely examination.
