On June 9, Vinh Long Provincial General Hospital said that the General Surgery Department had just received and successfully treated a case of a foreign object in the rectum, especially in a 34-year-old male patient, admitted to the hospital in a state of prolonged anal pain.
According to medical history, during personal activities, the patient self-introduced a plastic bottle about 20 cm long and about 5 cm in diameter into the anus. After many attempts to remove it but unsuccessfully, the foreign object continued to move deep into the rectum.
When visiting the hospital for examination, patients experience prolonged pain and discomfort. Through clinical examination and necessary paraclinical tests, doctors determined that the foreign object was located deep in the rectum, posing many potential risks of serious complications.
According to doctors, if not intervened in time, this condition can cause mucosal damage, bleeding, rectal perforation, infection or peritonitis, directly affecting the health and life of patients.
After assessing the patient's condition and taking X-rays, the team of the General Surgery Department led by MSc.BSCKI Tran Nhat Phi determined that the foreign object could not be removed by conventional methods or by anal endoscopy, so surgery was indicated.
Thanks to the smooth coordination of the surgical team, the foreign object was safely removed. The intervention process did not record serious damage or complications of rectal perforation, helping the patient recover quickly after treatment.
Currently, the patient's health is stable, vital signs are normal, eating and exercising are good. The patient continues to be monitored in the department to assess progress and ensure complete recovery.
