On January 31, Vung Tau General Hospital said that it had just successfully deployed a laparoscopic surgery to remove ureteral stone by laser for a patient, with professional support from Gia Dinh People's Hospital.
Previously, male patient N.M.H (born in 1966) developed prolonged pain in his right hip and back, significantly affecting daily activities. Through clinical examination combined with paraclinical indications, it was shown that the patient's right kidney had many stones about 5 mm in size, accompanied by degree II water retention; and at the same time, a right kidney cyst about 19 mm in diameter was discovered.
In addition, the ureteral position must record a 12 x 9 mm gravel causing obstruction, which is the main cause of kidney water retention.
During the professional consultation process with Gia Dinh People's Hospital, it was agreed to indicate laparoscopic surgery to dissolve ureteral stone by laser. This is a modern, minimally invasive treatment method, highly effective in breaking stones, limiting damage to healthy tissues and helping patients recover quickly.
The surgery performed directly by MSc. BS.CKII Nguyen Xuan Toan - Head of Nephrology - Urology Department, Gia Dinh People's Hospital - in coordination with the team of General Surgery Department, Department of Surgery - Anesthesia and Resuscitation, Vung Tau General Hospital took place smoothly, the stones were completely removed. Currently, the patient's health is stable and is being continuously monitored and cared for post-operatively.
According to Vung Tau General Hospital, the successful implementation of laser ureteral stone dissection endoscopy technique shows that the hospital's expertise is increasingly improved with the support of higher-level hospitals. Thereby, contributing to helping local people access modern treatment techniques right in the locality, reducing costs, time and limiting referrals to the central area of Ho Chi Minh City.
