On January 26, Dr. Tran Anh Duong - Head of the Eye Department of the Vietnam Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi (Quang Binh) - said that he had just treated a female patient, H.A (18 years old, residing in Dong Hoi City), who lost her vision due to a laser beam while hanging out at a bar.
Previously, on the evening of January 25, H.A went to a bar to play and was hit directly in the eye by a laser beam from the bar's lighting system, causing her to feel blurred vision, so she went to see a doctor.
After examination, the doctor determined that A had macular hemorrhage and severe pre-retinal hemorrhage that could have long-term effects on vision.
According to ophthalmologists, eye damage caused by lasers is very complex, especially when it affects the retina.
When a laser beam is shined into the eye, depending on the time and intensity of exposure, it can cause macular hemorrhage, pre-retinal hemorrhage, macular necrosis, macular edema, etc.
These injuries leave serious sequelae such as scarring, fibrosis, degeneration, macular atrophy, and permanent vision loss or reduction.
