In response to the proposal to express concern about the current trend of agricultural product imports, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has proactively proposed two important solutions.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has responded to the petitions of voters and people at the 9th session of the 15th National Assembly. Accordingly, the Vietnam Farmers' Association expressed concern about the current trend of agricultural product imports, especially agricultural products from the US to balance trade, which will create great pressure for Vietnamese agricultural products.

Responding to the proposal, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that in the face of the trend of agricultural product imports, especially the possibility of agricultural products imported from the United States when the country announced the imposition of counterpart tariffs, the Government and the Prime Minister have directed the careful preparation of plans, effective negotiations with the motto "harmonizing benefits, sharing risks" and in the spirit of protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of Vietnam, towards balanced and sustainable trade, not affecting the international agreements that Vietnam has participated in.

Along with that, the Ministry also directed the implementation of solutions to diversify markets, products, supply chains, improve the competitive quality of goods, and be ready to adapt to developments in the world economy. The Ministry has set out 2 specific tasks and solutions in the coming time.

First is to proactively improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products: For the domestic consumption market, localities need to build the image of regional specialty fruit trees and local endemic products; support organizations and individuals to build fruit tree product brands associated with geographical indications; form fruit tree product trading floors.

Carry out trade promotion activities so that domestic consumers have enough information about fruit tree products; reorganize production, especially promote production linkages; increase preliminary processing, preservation and deep processing; promote cooperation and linkages along the supply chain to suit market requirements and reduce costs, increase competitiveness.

Promote the development of the agricultural sector in a modern direction, concentrated, large-scale, productive, high-quality, efficient and competitive commodity production; firmly ensure national food security and increase exports according to Decision No. 575/QD-TTg dated May 4, 2015 of the Prime Minister on approving the overall planning of high-tech agricultural zones and zones until 2020, with a vision to 2030.

Continue to promote the development of high technology, effectively apply high technology in the agricultural sector, contributing to the successful implementation of the plan to restructure the agricultural sector, building a comprehensive agricultural development towards modernity, producing large-scale, valuable goods with high added value and competitiveness; forming and developing a number of areas, regions and high-tech agricultural enterprises under the High-tech Agricultural Development Program under the National High-Tech Development Program until 2030.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has been implementing policies to encourage production and support the consumption of agricultural products such as Decree No. 57/2018/ND-CP, Decree No. 98/2018/ND-CP...

Second, on market development: Communicate and disseminate knowledge to encourage producers to improve the quality of agricultural products through the application of national and international standards and regulations.

Implementing consumption promotion solutions such as: organizing the connection of local specialty agricultural product consumption to the markets of major cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City through key forums; organizing trade promotion, introducing and promoting agricultural products produced according to the VietGAP model, high quality, safety, organic, OCOP products, ... through major events such as fairs, exhibitions and markets; organizing Agro Viet Fair, Vietnam Craft Village Fair, local agricultural product weekly in many provinces and cities across the country;

Coordinate the implementation of cooperation activities with agencies, associations, and large distribution and logistics enterprises to support digital transformation and make the most of e-commerce channels.

Focus on the task of developing Vietnam's agricultural product brand, such as: building and developing national brands for rice products. At the same time, strengthen inspection and supervision of fraudulent acts affecting the quality of agricultural products to maintain the reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products in the domestic and international markets.
