Accordingly, AkzoNobel cooperates with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Management Board of Ly Son Marine Protected Area and the Quang Ngai Provincial Fisheries Association to implement a training program on marine ecosystem conservation for fishermen and teachers in the Ly Son island special zone, and at the same time hand over a project to renovate the exterior of people's houses and murals on An Binh island within the framework of the Let's Colour initiative with the theme "Born to be Wild - Born to live wild".
These activities are part of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between AkzoNobel Vietnam and IUCN, aimed at strengthening the protection of Vietnam's marine ecosystem in general, and promoting the conservation of sea turtles and marine species in particular.
Through the project, AkzoNobel continues to spread the Let's Colour initiative in Vietnam, a global program initiated in 2009, aimed at using the power of color to improve living space and improve the quality of life for the community.
From October 2025 to February 2026, AkzoNobel Vietnam, IUCN and the Management Board of Ly Son Marine Protected Area have implemented a large-scale renovation project on An Binh Island, with a total newly built area of more than 17,000m2. The project includes new exterior paint for 83 households, An Vinh Kindergarten & Primary School (An Binh Point) and Lang Ong.

In addition, 20 new murals are being made to raise awareness of the local community and tourists about sea turtle conservation and marine ecosystems. Through this, the project contributes to creating a more vibrant and attractive appearance for An Binh Island, supporting tourism development, reducing pressure on sea resource exploitation and improving livelihoods for people. At the same time, the project also restores community spaces and mural works made in 2017-2018 that have deteriorated due to harsh weather conditions on the island.
In addition to renovation activities at An Binh island, AkzoNobel Vietnam coordinates with IUCN, Quang Ngai Provincial Fisheries Association and Ly Son Marine Protected Area Management Board to implement activities to raise awareness and propagate about marine ecosystem conservation, sea turtle protection and reduce plastic waste pollution.
From March 21 to 23, 2026 in the Ly Son special island area, IUCN organized training for teachers on marine conservation and sea turtle protection; guided fishermen to use mobile applications to monitor and supervise unintentional fishing activities for sea turtles and marine mammals; and at the same time disseminated measures to rescue marine life and minimize plastic waste; as well as handed over completed murals to local authorities in the Ly Son special island area.

Within the framework of cooperation, AkzoNobel and IUCN will continue to expand marine conservation activities, not only in the special island area of Ly Son but also in other marine protected areas and National Parks such as Con Dao, Hon Cau, Cu Lao Cham and Nui Chua National Park. Expanded activities include mural painting, environmental education, training to reduce unintentional fishing for fishermen, knowledge exchange programs, attracting volunteers, and technical support.
Ms. Nguyen My Lan, Director in charge of Decorative Paint business unit, Southeast Asia region, AkzoNobel, said: “At AkzoNobel, we believe in the power of color in transforming space and improving the quality of life. Through the Let's Colour program and cooperation with IUCN, we not only simply repaint the walls, but also contribute to preserving cultural and natural heritage, while raising community awareness about the importance of protecting the marine environment. The use of Thanh Am Green - Color of the Year 2026 is also a reminder of the peaceful beauty and precious values of the ocean at An Binh Island”.
