According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City, during the peak period of implementing the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) (week 8 from November 8 to November 14, 2025), Can Tho has synchronously deployed many solutions to manage fishing vessels, monitor journeys and strictly control seafood traceability activities.
As of November 14, all 784 fishing vessels in the area have been fully managed on the national databases VNFishbase and VNeID, with a total capacity of 207,631 CV. Of these, 341 ships are 15 meters or more in length and 47 ships operate fishing logistics services. All 784 boat owners have had their identification information updated into the population system, ensuring synchronization between fishing boat data and owner's personal information.
All 341 vessels with a length of 15 meters or more have been installed with a journey monitoring device (VMS) and fully displayed on the system of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control.
The licensing and inspection work was strictly implemented when all 784 fishing vessels were granted valid fishing licenses. The city has also completed a review of the operating status of the fleet and sealed 28 unqualified vessels. These ships are required to anchor in the designated area, sign a commitment not to operate and are coordinated by the authorities to monitor with images, locations, and coordinates for periodic reports. At the same time, the authorities have instructed ship owners to translate and remove registrations in accordance with regulations for 26 ships and supported the procedures for buying, selling, and re-registering 32 ships to ensure transparency in management.
For ships that have been on the shore for a long time but do not meet the inspection requirements, the authorities are required to anchor at storm shelters or fishing ports managed by the Border Guard, and closely monitor to prevent the risk of violations.
Since the beginning of 2024, Can Tho city has not had any fishing vessels illegally exploiting seafood in foreign waters.
At Tran De Fishing Port, control activities are maintained 24/7. Accumulated from the beginning of the year to mid-November 2025, there were 4,156 ships with a total output of 74,082 tons. The Port fisheries Control Team (IUU team) conducts inspections and controls of fishing vessels entering and leaving the port, which is carried out by members of the team 24/7. Up to now, the cumulative inspection of 13,384 fishing vessels entering and leaving the port has been conducted.
