Spotted rare Java pangolins discharging field water

Gia Lai - Discovering a rare Java pangolin when draining water into a field, a resident handed it over to functional agencies to release it into nature.

On June 13, leaders of Phu My Tay Commune People's Committee (Gia Lai province) said that the locality had just received a rare Java pangolin individual voluntarily handed over by people.

Previously, a resident in Hoi Phu village (Phu My Tay commune) while draining water into the field discovered a strange animal with scales covering its entire body. Suspecting that this was a rare wild animal, people quickly contacted local authorities to hand it over.

Through inspection, functional agencies determined that this was a Java pangolin, weighing about 2.5kg. After completing the procedures according to regulations, Phu My Tay Commune People's Committee coordinated with Phu My Regional Forest Protection Department to release this individual back to the natural environment.

Java pangolin (Manis javanica) is a wild animal belonging to group IB in the list of endangered, precious, and rare forest animals. This species is also listed in the Vietnam Red Book and is prioritized for strict protection at the highest level.
