On May 24, Long Hai Commune Police (HCMC) said that they had coordinated with professional departments of HCMC Police to verify and quickly arrest the subject who committed robbery in the area of Hai Lam hamlet church, where the victim was an old woman selling lottery tickets.
According to initial information, at about 5:40 am on May 23, Ms. N.T. M (74 years old) was sitting selling lottery tickets on the sidewalk opposite Hai Lam church (group 11, Hai Lam hamlet, Long Hai commune), when a man driving a motorbike approached to ask to buy lottery tickets, and asked her to exchange money.
When Ms. M took out the wallet containing money, the subject quickly snatched it and jumped on the motorbike, accelerated and fled. According to the victim's report, in the wallet there was 1 tael of 24k gold; some cash and personal papers.
Upon receiving information, Long Hai Commune Police coordinated with professional departments to quickly approach the scene to verify and collect information and evidence. At about 4 pm on the same day, functional forces identified the suspect as Nguyen Van Thu (born in 1990) and proceeded to arrest and recover exhibits.
At the police station, Nguyen Van Thu confessed to the violation, because he was short of money to spend, he had the intention to target lonely, elderly lottery ticket sellers to rob property.
Currently, functional agencies are continuing to investigate and clarify, consolidate the file to handle the subject according to legal regulations.
