HCMC - In the 6 months since the sea turtle breeding season, Con Dao National Park has been flourishing, successfully releasing more than 120,000 baby turtles into the sea.

On October 25, Con Dao National Park said that within 6 months from the 2025 sea turtle breeding season, the rescue team had relocated thousands of egg nests, successfully hatched and released hundreds of thousands of baby turtles into the sea.

The sea turtle breeding season starts from April to November every year, with a peak lasting from June to October. In Con Dao, the majority of green turtles (also known as male turtles) come to the beaches to lay eggs. To date, Con Dao National Park has successfully relocated nearly 1,800 eggs, hatched 1,500 nests and successfully released more than 120,000 healthy baby sea turtles back to the natural environment.

The remaining egg nests are expected to continue to bloom and release into the sea from now until the end of December 2025. It is expected that this year, more than 600 mother turtles will gather on the sandbanks of Con Dao to lay eggs; the success rate of the eggs is about 87% and more than 150,000 baby turtles will be released into the sea.

According to the Con Dao National Park Management Board, the number of mother sea turtles in groups this year has increased compared to 2024, only 387 mother sea turtles recorded 1,161 breeding nests with 111,986 eggs at the beaches in Con Dao.

Over the years, sea turtle protection activities have been an outstanding success of Con Dao National Park, contributing greatly to the conservation of the world's endangered marine species. In addition to the professional force, sea turtle conservation work is supported by the community including volunteers, businesses, tourists... Thereby, the image of baby turtles being hatched and released into the sea will carry the hope of extending the miraculous survival journey of rare sea turtles.
