On July 6, leaders of Lam Dong Provincial Police said that the unit is directing professional departments and local police to strengthen grasping the situation, promptly detect and eliminate gambling rings and dens in the form of football betting during the 2026 World Cup season.
Recently, on July 3, the Criminal Police Department coordinated with the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of the Provincial Police to dismantle a gambling organization and online gambling ring operating through a betting website.
According to the police agency, the ring is organized tightly, multi-layered with the participation of subjects in many provinces and cities.
After a period of establishing a special case, the police force simultaneously deployed working groups in Lam Dong, An Giang and Ho Chi Minh City, arresting 5 related subjects.
Initially, the investigating agency determined that the subjects bought total accounts, then divided them into many lower-level accounts to hand over to football betting players. The total transaction amount of this ring was determined to be more than 5 billion VND.
Previously, the Investigation Police Agency of Lam Dong Provincial Police also initiated a case, prosecuted defendants and temporarily detained 4 subjects related to an online football betting ring, with betting amounts of more than 3.5 billion VND.
In addition to fighting gambling dens, the police force also discovered many advertising signs with logos and links to betting websites such as TK88, MM99 and MU88.
Through working, business households said that some subjects came to market and install free billboards without knowing that this is a form of advertising for gambling websites.
The police agency has requested households to sign commitments and dismantle all violating billboards.
Colonel Huynh Ngoc Liem - Deputy Director of Lam Dong Provincial Police said that during the 2026 World Cup, the police force will continue to strengthen the grasp of the situation, proactively detect, fight, and strictly handle acts of organizing gambling and online football betting.
At the same time, the Provincial Police promote propaganda and recommend people not to participate in football betting in any form, contributing to maintaining security and order in the area.
