According to data from the Vietnam Stroke Association, on the world stroke map, Vietnam is among the countries with the highest risk of stroke, with an estimated rate of over 218/100,000 people. According to this rate, with a population of 100 million, the number of stroke cases in Vietnam is about 200,000 per year, but only 5% are cured.
Reporting at the club meeting, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Toan - Deputy Head of Internal Medicine Department, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University shared about how to detect early signs of stroke, instructions on how to handle people with signs of stroke at home, as well as methods of treating stroke in the acute stage at medical facilities.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Toan, each year stroke causes 6.7 million deaths worldwide and 5 million people are disabled or suffer from post-stroke sequelae. Stroke is the second leading cause of death in the world, 1 in 4 people have a stroke, and is the leading cause of disability.
With the current "red alert" situation about stroke and the sharing and recommendations about stroke from experts, the establishment of the Stroke Club of Hospital 199 is very necessary.
The Club's activities will contribute to raising community awareness, supporting recovery, improving quality of life, enhancing relapse prevention and reducing complications for patients.
The Stroke Club of Hospital 199 will meet regularly once a quarter to provide general medical knowledge to patients, their families and the community.
