Da Nang - City police have just dismantled a high-interest lending ring operating in cyberspace, illegally profiting more than 610 million VND.

On June 10, Da Nang City Police said that the Criminal Police Department had just dismantled a high-interest lending ring operating in cyberspace, initially determining illegal profits of more than 610 million VND.

Through grasping the situation in cyberspace, functional forces discovered that Phung Quoc Thang (born in 2000, from Hanoi, temporarily residing in Da Nang) showed signs of being involved in usury activities. The subject used mobile phones and social networking platforms such as Facebook, Zalo to promote services, find borrowers and carry out large value money transfer transactions.

The verification process showed that from the beginning of 2025, Thang came to Da Nang to organize loan activities for interest, and at the same time colluded with a number of other subjects to support disbursement, recover money and expand the operating network.

On June 4, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police conducted an administrative inspection and emergency search of Thang's residence in Ngu Hanh Son ward. Through this, functional forces seized many personal papers of others, mobile phones, vehicles and a large amount of money to serve the investigation.

Initial investigation results determined that Phung Quoc Thang lent to 12 people with a total amount of more than 1.6 billion VND, illegally profiting about 610 million VND. The investigating agency also clarified that some individuals used bank accounts to support interest collection and disbursement activities for subjects.

Regarding the case, a subject came to the police station to surrender and voluntarily handed over 320 million VND to serve the investigation.

Exhibits seized included 20 citizen identification cards, 3 driver's licenses, 1 identity card, 1 passport, 2 mobile phones, 1 motorbike, 677 million VND in cash and many documents and data related to usury activities.

Currently, the Investigation Police Agency of Da Nang City Police has executed an emergency detention order for Phung Quoc Thang to continue investigating and expanding the case.
