The 1st Dong Thap Provincial Sports Games at all levels are organized in a streamlined and effective direction at 2 levels: commune and provincial levels. In which, the grassroots level is identified as an important foundation for discovering and nurturing sports talents.
As of mid-May 2026, the whole province had 54/102 communes and wards successfully organized the TDTT Congress, reaching a rate of 53% (including 33 units completed before the merger). According to the plan, all localities will complete the commune-level Congress before June 30, 2026.
After completing the grassroots Congress, the 1st Dong Thap Provincial Sports Congress 2026 will officially take place from July 1 to September 10, 2026 with a large scale and many outstanding activities.
The Congress is divided into 2 phases. Phase 1 (July 11 - August 15, 2026): Organizing competitions in host communes and wards. Phase 2 (August 25 - September 10, 2026): Organizing the final matches, Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony in the central area. The Opening Ceremony is expected to take place on August 28, 2026 at Dong Thap Provincial Gymnasium (No. 01, Phan Luong Truc Street, Thoi Son Ward) and will be broadcast live to serve a large audience inside and outside the province. The Closing Ceremony is expected to be held on September 10, 2026.
This year's provincial-level Congress gathers 30 sports delegations to compete, including 23 inter-cluster delegations of communes and wards and 7 delegations of departments, branches, armed forces, universities, colleges... It is expected that more than 5,000 excellent athletes will be selected from grassroots movements to participate in the competition.
Athletes will compete in 26 sports with many rich contents such as: athletics, swimming, men's – women's football, women's soft volleyball, tug-of-war, stick pushing, traditional martial arts, Vovinam, Karate, chess, Chinese chess, tennis, pickleball, pets, shuttlecock kicking, aerobics, cross-country...
According to representatives of the leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Thap province, the 1st Dong Thap Provincial Sports Games at all levels is not only a sports festival for the whole people but also a strategic stepping stone for the province to discover, select and invest in developing potential young athletes.
