On October 19, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province coordinated with Long Son Petrochemical Company Limited (LSP) and related departments, branches and units to organize a provincial-level incident response drill in 2024.
The drill was conducted based on worst-case scenarios including chemical spills, rescue and community evacuation, with coordination and support from many forces, provincial units, the military and units that have signed coordination regulations on fire prevention and fighting and rescue in the area.
The hypothetical situation is that at around 9:00 a.m. on October 19, during the process of filling HCl acid at the tank area of the Long Son Petrochemical Complex project (Long Son commune, Vung Tau city), an incident occurred, leading to a leak of HCl gas that spread into the environment and spread with the wind. Due to the impact of HCl splashing on people, the operating worker suffered burns on the neck and hands, and two scaffolding workers working on top of the NAOH TK-6041 tank fainted...
The company's on-site response force was alerted and deployed to respond at the grassroots level. At the same time, the incident situation was reported to the Standing Committee of the Incident Response Steering Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province for support. Thereby, activating the provincial incident response mechanism as well as organizing evacuation from the affected area of the incident.

After 45 minutes of live-fire drills, with close and effective coordination between LSP's response force and support forces, along with modern specialized equipment, the chemical incident was completely controlled, the environment was safe, and production and daily activities returned to normal.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the drill at LSP was organized to raise awareness and responsibility for all levels, sectors, chemical enterprises and the community to proactively prevent chemical incidents; at the same time, be ready to respond effectively when chemical situations occur.
According to LSP representative, the event marks an important milestone in improving safety management at Long Son Petrochemical Complex.

With a commitment to not letting any incidents happen, Long Son Petrochemical Complex always aims to operate safely and ensure the health and lives of all workers as well as local people," emphasized the LSP representative.
LSP is known to be the first integrated petrochemical complex in Vietnam, built in Long Son commune, Vung Tau city. This is a national key project with a total investment of more than 5 billion USD, including an olefins plant with a total capacity of 1.35 million tons/year; three polyolefin plants (including HDPE, LLDPE and PP) with a total capacity of 1.4 million tons/year; along with a tank system, specialized port, central utility plant and other related utilities. The project has just been put into commercial operation, expected to be inaugurated in November 2024.
