On September 19, at Provincial Square Park (Tan Trieu Ward), the opening ceremony of the 2025 Elephant Conservation Week and the Dong Nai Elephant Run program with more than 300 participants took place.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang - Vice Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee - said: In recent years, the province has been a pioneer in elephant conservation and achieved encouraging results. Along with that, propaganda and education campaigns have contributed to raising people's awareness of the importance of living in harmony with elephants.
From September 17 to September 21, in Dong Nai, the Department of Forestry and Forestry (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) coordinated with the Provincial People's Committee to organize the Elephant Conservation Week 2025 with the theme "Harmony of Life. Safe for elephants - Safe for humans".
Within the framework of the event, there will be many activities such as: "Running for Dong Nai elephants"; "Jumping for kindness to elephants and wild animals"; Exhibition of images of 27 elephants in Dong Nai province; Documentary film about the natural life of elephants, display of biodiversity images in special-use forests...
Dong Nai province is considered the "home" to the second largest wild elephant population in the country. From 1990 to 2008, with the support of non-governmental organizations and research institutes, there have been many surveys and investigations on the number of wild elephants in Dong Nai in the areas: Cat Tien National Park, La Nga Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. - Dong Nai and Dong Nai Nature - Cultural Reserve.
The situation of elephant-people conflict before 2009 in the province was very serious when both human and elephant damage was recorded. Since 2013, Dong Nai province has been implementing a series of solutions to preserve and develop wild elephant complexes such as: investigating and assessing the number of individuals and elephant complexes; identifying habitats, distribution areas, and food sources of elephants; building about 72 km of electric fence system, 3 monitoring cages, 6 water tanks...
Elephant conservation work in the province has achieved positive results, has proposed feasible and appropriate conservation solutions in Dong Nai province, has established model bodies, and identified 27 wild elephant complexes.
