The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Lieu province said that the total length of the East Sea dyke landslide is about 100m. In particular, the landslide at the border between the two provinces of Bac Lieu - Soc Trang is 60m, in some places the landslide is deep into the foot of the dike; landslide on the 40m long section of Champa Bridge 1.
It is forecast that in the coming days, high tides combined with strong winds and very strong ocean waves will likely overflow the dyke into people's houses and production areas. This is a landslide point that has previously been reinforced by the authorities, and landslide warning signs have now been posted to let people know.
After listening to opinions from relevant sectors, Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu said that there were enough elements to declare a natural disaster emergency situation. "Recently in Bac Lieu, natural disasters have occurred in many places, becoming more and more serious, we spend a lot of money to overcome them. If we do not declare a natural disaster emergency, how can we promptly fix it so that people can live with peace of mind? activities and production", Chairman Bac Lieu emphasized.
Previously, in early 2023, a serious dyke landslide also occurred in this area. Immediately afterwards, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province also signed a decision to announce an emergency situation of the East Sea dyke landslide (the first section of the line bordering Soc Trang province in Vinh Trach Dong commune, Bac Lieu city). . This province has also implemented an embankment project to create beach reclamation worth over 180 billion VND. While the project is being implemented, the sea dyke erosion continues.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Lieu province, if the projects are completed, it will limit sea waves hitting the foot of the dyke, causing the dyke to break because this area no longer has protective forests.
