Kien Giang approves policies and specific spending levels for children

NGUYÊN ANH |

Kien Giang - Issuing specific policies and spending levels for children is necessary, in line with the policy of promoting social security policies.

Kien Giang province has just passed a Resolution regulating policies and specific spending levels for children in the province. Applicable to children in Kien Giang province under 16 years old, children being cared for, raised and managed at social assistance facilities established and operating in accordance with the law, and the multi-functional drug rehabilitation facility of Kien Giang province.

Support funds are paid to the child's parent or legal guardian.

Support will be provided during the Action Month for Children and the annual Mid-Autumn Festival; support during hospitalization at district-level medical facilities or higher on the annual Lunar New Year. Support for children in 14 groups of children with special circumstances as prescribed by the Law on Children; children from poor and near-poor households.

Support to resolve difficulties in cases of child abuse, illness, disability, accidents, and risks in life. Funding is from the state budget and mobilized from sponsorships and contributions from businesses, organizations, and individuals.

Over the past years, Kien Giang province has deployed and implemented the Law on Children well, effectively implementing the goals and targets of the Action Plan for Children in the area for the period 2021 - 2030. The province has always paid attention to leadership and direction; sectors and localities have closely coordinated, so the work of protecting and caring for children in the province has clearly changed.

According to the Provincial People's Committee, in addition to advantages, the province's child protection and care work still faces difficulties and challenges. The province has more than 409,000 children under 16 years old; of which children under 6 years old account for 35.71%, children in special circumstances account for more than 3,400 children, accounting for 0.84%, and children at risk of falling into special circumstances account for more than 21,400 children, accounting for 5.22%.

These groups of children need special attention from all levels, sectors, social organizations and the community to protect, care for and create the best opportunities for them to live and develop comprehensively. Therefore, helping children in special circumstances not only comes from the support of organizations and individuals with good hearts but also requires support from the state budget. This also shows the deep concern of the Party and the State for these groups of children, helping them to have good health and contributing to reducing the burden on their families and society.

However, the province has not yet issued a Resolution stipulating specific policies and spending levels for certain groups of children in special circumstances, children at risk of falling into special circumstances from poor and near-poor households; children who have been abused, injured, sick, disabled, or have risks in life.

Child protection, care and education is one of the top priority policies to ensure social security, for the goal of sustainable, stable and long-term development of the country. Therefore, the issuance of policies and specific spending levels for children in the province is necessary and consistent with the viewpoints and policies of the Party, the policies of the State, and the policy of promoting social security of the province.
