On December 1, information from the People's Committee of Nghe An province said that in 2024, the work of educating, caring for and protecting children received special attention from all levels, sectors, localities, units and families, achieving many positive results.
The Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs regularly integrates communication content on child injury prevention into general communication activities in the children's sector in many forms.
565 banners were hung; 71,363 leaflets on child drowning prevention were printed; 59,000 leaflets and brochures on child injury prevention were printed and distributed to households with children; 3 direct communication conferences were organized for more than 700 delegates who are commune-level child workers and collaborators in blocks, hamlets, villages and communes; 36 communication sessions were organized for 1,800 delegates who are preschool teachers, commune officials; representatives of parents, grandparents and grandparents of children under 15 years old on knowledge and skills to strengthen supervision and implementation of measures to prevent injuries; prevent drowning for children at home and in the community; 32 conferences were organized to disseminate specialized activities on injury prevention at schools with the participation of more than 10,000 children.
Coordinate with press agencies to promote information and propaganda, disseminate content related to child injury prevention and control.
Localities have focused on directing propaganda work on drowning prevention and traffic safety, and reviewing and placing warning signs and prohibition signs in places with risks of causing accidents and injuries to children.
The Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs organized 10 training courses for over 1,500 subjects including officials working on children, sectors, unions at all levels, localities, parents and caregivers on child protection, care and education in general, emphasizing the content of child injury prevention and control; coordinated with the Department of Children to integrate project programs, organized 3 specialized training courses on child drowning prevention and control for over 180 district and commune officials on child drowning prevention and control; 3 training courses for 47 lecturers on water safety skills for commune and ward officials and 38 safe swimming teachers in localities.
Every year, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs coordinates with local departments, agencies and sectors to organize launching ceremonies, provincial Children's Forums; build models of "Safe House", "Safe School"; "Safe Community", "Children in the whole commune know how to swim", "Students in the whole school know how to swim" in 21 districts, cities and towns.
Coordinate with sectors and localities to review and install 2,028 warning signs and prohibition signs in places with risk of drowning, distribute 1,693 life-saving devices for children; install 3,487 warning signs in areas prone to injury and drowning accidents such as ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, and seas in localities.
Regarding funding, in addition to the state budget, Nghe An has called for support from international organizations such as UNICEF, WHO, as well as domestic and foreign non-governmental organizations to carry out work to prevent and combat child injuries.
Specifically: The Child Drowning Prevention Project in Nghe An province, sponsored by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, USA (2021-2023 period: 2,006 million VND; 2024-2025 period: 4,406 million VND), supports safe, free swimming lessons for more than 4,000 children and teaches skills and safety in the water environment for 5,4000 children from 6 to 15 years old.
