On the morning of October 20, the Ministry of Finance held a rally to celebrate World Statistics Day and a high-level seminar with the theme "athletes for a sustainable future in the digital age - Vietnam's SDG monitoring journey".
Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance) Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong said that on June 3, 2010, the United Nations General Assembly officially approved October 20 every year as World Statistics Day. In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly decided to celebrate World Statistics Day with a cycle of 5 years.
This year, the global statistics community celebrates the 4th World Statistics Day (October 20, 2025). This is an opportunity to honor the value of dedication, honesty, and professionalism of statistical work, raising awareness of the Government and people about the important role of data and statistics in building evidence-based policies for a sustainable development future.
The theme of World Statistics Day 2025 is Promoting change with quality data and statistics for everyone. This theme has strategic significance in the context of the world approaching the 2030 milestone to assess the progress of the implementation of the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development with 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015.
Director Nguyen Thi Huong emphasized that in recent years, the Vietnamese Statistical sector has always actively participated and contributed to regional and global statistical activities, constantly innovating to compile and provide timely economic and social statistical information, effectively serving the Party and State in policy making and management from the central to local levels.
The theme of World Statistics Day 2025 further affirms the commitment of the national statistics system in responding to new challenges, ensuring that no one is left behind in the global data era.

In the letter, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his confidence that with extensive experience, good traditions and achieved results, the collective leadership, civil servants, public employees, and workers in the Statistics sector and those working in the statistics sector nationwide always work together, unanimously, innovate and create, complete assigned tasks well, improve the quality of statistical information, ensure honest, objective, complete and timely data, serve the Party, the State, the business community and the people, making an important contribution to bringing the country firmly into an era of prosperous, civilized and prosperous development of the nation.
Within the framework of the high-level seminar with the theme "athletes for a sustainable future in the digital age - Vietnam's SDG monitoring journey", delegates focused on discussing and clarifying the importance of data, classification by gender, age, ethnicity in SDG monitoring and evidence-based policy making; gaps and recommendations.
In addition, delegates frankly discussed and pointed out opportunities, challenges and solutions in promoting digitalization towards a sustainable future based on digital technology; clarified the role of statistics in the country's development process; emphasized innovation and cooperation in statistics. At the same time, aim for a General Census of Population based on registration, status and finding directions in the future.
