Vinh Long people actively exchange garbage for gifts, contributing to environmental protection

Vinh Long - On June 21, many people brought recycled waste to Co.opmart Vinh Long to exchange gifts, contributing to environmental protection and saving costs.

The program " exchanging garbage for gifts" organized by the Department of Environmental Protection in coordination with the Provincial Women's Union and supermarket Co.opmart is held periodically on Saturday mornings and Tuesdays of each month.

People who bring 2kg of recyclable waste such as paper, cardboard, cans, plastic bottles to the collection point will be guided to classify and receive gifts.

Ms. Le Thi Mai (residing in Ward 2, Vinh Long City) said that she and her children started sorting garbage at home, leaving it in separate, leaving it with paper, aluminum cans, plastic bottles and bringing it to the supermarket to exchange gifts.

"The gift of laundry detergent, distillation water or green potted planting helps me save a small amount, but I feel happy because it contributes to reducing waste in the environment," Ms. Mai added.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tam (Ward 3) said that he collects some types of waste that can be recycled and then brings them to exchange gifts. Seeing garbage is also beneficial, and children and grandchildren looking at it can also learn to protect the environment.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Thuy - employee of Co.opmart Vinh Long supermarket - since the beginning of the year, the program has been held 6 times.

Each collection session receives an average of 250300kg of recyclable waste. In the coming time, we plan to organize more mobile "Sharing Trash for Gifts" in other localities to spread the habit of waste classification in the community," Ms. Thuy informed.
