Saltwater intrusion attacks, farmers use well water to water plants

When surface water sources are contaminated with saltwater due to saltwater intrusion from the sea, many farmers are forced to use well water to maintain their farming activities.

According to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper on January 31, in Thanh Hai Commune (Thanh Phu District, Ben Tre Province), local people said they use well water for agricultural production. This is the main source of water for irrigation of crops.

According to the Southern Institute of Water Resources Research, it is forecasted that the water source in the coastal areas of the Mekong Delta will be intruded by high salinity and will last for the first half of February as well as the end of February.
