On the morning of May 6, at the 2024 Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) Announcement Ceremony organized by the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Thanh Hoa province recorded a leap forward with a 9-point increase compared to 2023, rising to 21st place nationwide with 68.74 points, ranking 2nd in the North Central region.
This is an impressive result if looking back at Thanh Hoa's PCI improvement process: from 47th in 2022, up to 30th in 2023 and now 21st in the national rankings. Notably, Thanh Hoa is also ranked in the group of 3 localities with the strongest reforms in the period of 2005-2024.
At the event, Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee - Mr. Do Minh Tuan - was honored to receive a commemorative medal from VCCI Chairman Pham Tan Cong, recognizing the efforts to reform administration and improve the local investment environment over the past time.
This year, the PCI rankings witnessed a major change when Hai Phong for the first time in 18 years took the lead nationwide with 74.84 points. The localities in the remaining top 10 include: Quang Ninh, Long An, Bac Giang, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Hue City, Hau Giang, Phu Tho, Dong Thap and Hung Yen.
According to VCCI Chairman Pham Tan Cong, PCI is not only a ranking but a powerful administrative reform tool, where businesses can speak up in practice and authorities at all levels listen and change. PCI has developed into a comprehensive, scientific and objective assessment system, a reliable measure of the quality of provincial-level economic management.
Thanh Hoa's strong improvement in ranking is considered a positive signal, reflecting the results of promoting administrative reform, improving the quality of public services, enhancing business dialogue and improving the investment - business environment. This is also a motivation for the locality to continue to affirm its position in the process of integration and sustainable development.
