Heritage conservation at Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark is not only about preservation, but also aims to promote economic and social values.
According to Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Ton Thi Ngoc Hanh, "Heritage is not only for display, but also a valuable resource for tourism and economic development."
Conservation and restoration efforts have helped Dak Nong pass the first re-evaluation of the Global Geopark title in 2024.
This success opens a new stage of development, affirming Dak Nong’s position on the world heritage map. At the same time, the province also proactively seeks support from UNESCO and international partners to mobilize resources for sustainable development.
UNESCO Global Geoparks are not only a story of heritage but also a journey for local people. Inspired by the success of Dong Van Stone Park (Ha Giang), Dak Nong has implemented community tourism projects, giving people the opportunity to develop their own economy and improve their quality of life.
This model is like giving people a “fishing rod” instead of a “fish,” helping people not only preserve their heritage but also create a sustainable source of income from the values of their homeland.
Connect and grow
In the past 5 years since its recognition, Dak Nong Geopark has signed cooperation agreements with many international geoparks in Korea, Thailand, Japan and Indonesia.
These programs not only promote exchanges and learning experiences but also create opportunities for developing tourism, education and geological sciences.
The park management board pays special attention to developing tourism associated with conservation and effectively exploiting natural potential. In particular, the unit also promotes the local image to the world.
Realizing the important role of the geopark, Dak Nong province considers it one of the three main economic pillars, along with agriculture and industry.
The provincial government is committed to accompanying businesses and investors, creating the most favorable conditions for developing sustainable tourism associated with the geopark.
In July 2024, the working trip of Provincial Party Secretary Ngo Thanh Danh to France affirmed the province's strong commitment to using the UNESCO Geopark title as a lever for socio-economic development.
Dak Nong Geopark not only preserves the values of the past but also opens the door to the future.
With the determination of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, Dak Nong is on the way to becoming a typical model of conservation, education and sustainable development. This is not only the pride of Dak Nong, but also an inspiration for the whole of Vietnam.
