This is a program organized by the Provincial Children's Support Fund in coordination with Center II (the unit directly supporting children with disabilities), the Department of Health and Dien Bien General Hospital. It is expected that more than 200 children will undergo surgery in this phase and the children will continue to be screened.
Dien Bien province currently has about 5,500 disabled children, with diverse types of disabilities, such as birth defects, motor disabilities, vision, hearing, intelligence, and disabilities due to accidents.
From 2019 to present, the program has screened more than 1,300 disabled children in the province. Of which, 627 children have had successful surgeries, 27 children have performed procedures, 19 children have been transferred to treatment, hundreds of children have been supported with rehabilitation tools, and consulted on treatment at home.
In 2025, the free screening and surgery program for children with disabilities will be held at health centers in districts, towns and cities. Through the screening, 242 children with eye, tooth and face, ear, throat, physical disability, burns, and urinary tract disabilities were assigned to consult, receive treatment, surgery, and provided with auxiliary equipment.
In addition, the program continues to accept children who have not been screened and come to the hospital for self-examination and are eligible for surgery until June 6.
