Canada and South Africa will kick off the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup with a confrontation taking place at 2:00 AM on June 29th at Los Angeles Stadium.
The Canadian team entered the knockout round in second place in Group B. Coach Jesse Marsch's team once drew with Bosnia & Herzegovina, defeated Qatar 6-0 before closing the group stage with a defeat to Switzerland.
Meanwhile, South Africa also ranked second in Group A after a journey including a defeat to Mexico, a draw with the Czech Republic and a victory over South Korea to win a ticket to the next round.
The two teams have only met once in the past, in a friendly match in 2007 with a 2-0 victory for South Africa. Therefore, the confrontation in Los Angeles will mark their first time facing each other in an official tournament as well as in the World Cup arena.
The winning team will participate in the round of 16 and face the winner in the match between the Netherlands and Morocco.
