According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on September 9, a low pressure area formed on the tropical convergence zone.
It is forecasted that in the next 1-2 days, this low pressure area is very likely to strengthen into a tropical depression in the central East Sea area (with a probability of about 80%). It is possible that this tropical depression will strengthen into a storm (probability of about 30 - 40%).
The scenario of a tropical depression/storm combined with the influence of cold air and the intertropical convergence zone, and a strong southwest monsoon will cause rain in some areas.
From September 10th to September 11th, the Central Highlands and Southern regions will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms with common rainfall from 60 - 120mm, locally very heavy rain over 180mm.
The area from Thanh Hoa to Hue city has moderate to heavy rain with common rainfall from 40 - 100mm, locally very heavy rain over 150mm.
The South Central Coast region, with rain, moderate rain, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 15 - 30mm, locally heavy rain over 80mm.
From September 12 - 17, under the impact of the tropical convergence zone with its axis passing through the Central region, in the Central provinces, there is a high possibility of continuing moderate to heavy rain over a wide area accompanied by a high risk of tornadoes, lightning, flash floods, landslides and localized flooding.
The diễn biến of heavy rain in the Central region as well as the intensity of rain and rainfall may still change due to the diễn biến of the low pressure area (possibly strengthening into a storm), the meteorological agency will regularly update natural disaster forecast bulletins in the coming days.
Previously, from May 2026 to now, 2 tropical depressions and 5 storms have occurred in the East Sea area.
