Forecast of the number of storms and tropical depressions to appear in the next month

It is forecasted that in the next month there will be about 2 - 3 storms and tropical depressions operating in the East Sea; of which about 1 will affect the mainland.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a noteworthy weather trend forecast for the next month (from August 11 to September 10).

Regarding the temperature trend, during the forecast period, the average temperature nationwide is generally 0.5 - 1 degree Celsius higher than the multi-year average, especially in the Northeast and South Central Coast regions, it is 1 - 1.5 degrees Celsius higher.

Hot weather in the Northern region is still likely to appear and mainly concentrate in the period from now until the end of August 2026, then gradually decrease from the beginning of September 2026.

The Central region continues to maintain and has many days of hot and intense heat, especially the South Central Coast region, the number of hot days is likely higher than the multi-year average.

Total rainfall in the period from November to September 10, 2026 in the Northern region, provinces from Thanh Hoa to Hue and the Central Highlands region is 5-25% higher than the multi-year average of the same period. In which, the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue city is 20-40% higher than the multi-year average. The remaining areas have commonly lower total rainfall than the multi-year average by 10-30%, in some places lower.

Widespread heavy rain will mainly concentrate in the Northern region and provinces from Thanh Hoa - Quang Tri. The Central Highlands and Southern regions will experience showers and thunderstorms for many days, especially the Central Highlands region will have moderate to heavy rain during the day, with rain concentrated in the afternoon and night.

Dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind are likely to continue to appear nationwide, concentrated more in the Northern region, from Thanh Hoa-Quang Tri, the Central Highlands and the South.

Regarding the sea weather trend, in the period from November 8-10. September 2026, storms/tropical depressions operating in the East Sea area and making landfall in Vietnam are likely to be equivalent to the multi-year average. The multi-year average in the East Sea area is 2.4 storms and making landfall in Vietnam is 0.9 storms.

Previously, in the period July 11 - August 10, 2026, 2 storms appeared in the East Sea area (storm No. 2, internationally named Noul and storm No. 3, internationally named Kujira) and 1 tropical depression appeared right in the Gulf of Tonkin area. All 3 storms/tropical depressions did not directly affect the mainland of Vietnam.

The monthly climate forecast bulletin is for trend forecasting. The meteorological agency recommends that in the context of climate change, weather, and climate are increasingly complicated with many dangerous and extreme forms.

Therefore, it is proposed that all levels of government and people regularly update and integrate forecast information and hydrometeorological warnings in 1-3-day short-term bulletins, to promptly adjust production plans and appropriate response plans to ensure safety for production and people's livelihoods.
