According to Ms. Chi, due to the impact of cold air, from the afternoon of May 7, the Northern region and the western part of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, thunderstorms will increase in scattered areas, with locally heavy rain. From the night of May 7, thunderstorms will appear throughout the Northern region, then expand to the North Central region of Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh.
The peak rain time of this rain wave will be concentrated from the night of May 7 to May 8 in the form of rain, moderate rain, locally heavy rain. Rainfall in the North is commonly fluctuating in the range of 20 - 40mm, locally heavy to very heavy rain over 100mm. The area from Ha Tinh to Hue city has scattered showers and thunderstorms with rainfall of 10-30mm, locally heavy rain over 70mm" - Ms. Phuong Chi assessed.
In addition, in the south with the Southern region and Lam Dong, it is also noteworthy that on May 7, scattered showers and thunderstorms will also appear in this area, concentrated in the late afternoon and night time.
Representatives of the Weather Forecast Department also especially emphasized that it is currently a transitional season, so thunderstorms can be accompanied by extreme weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, which are very dangerous. People should limit moving out when there are thunderstorms outside, if they are moving on the road, find a safe shelter.
Also according to Ms. Phuong Chi, rain and late-season cold air will cause the temperature in the North on May 8 to drop below 29 degrees Celsius, the weather will turn cool. The lowest temperature in this cold air wave in the Northeast region and Thanh Hoa is commonly from 21 - 24 degrees Celsius, the Northern mountainous region has places below 21 degrees Celsius.
Hanoi area from the evening of May 7 to the day of May 8 has rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy to very heavy rain; from the night of May 7, the weather turns cool. The lowest temperature in this cold air wave is commonly 22 - 24 degrees C.
At sea, from near dawn on May 8, in the north of the Gulf of Tonkin, the wind will turn Northeast strongly at level 4 - 5, gusting at level 6, sea waves are 1 - 2m high, rough seas. From the evening and night of May 8, the northeast sea area of the Northern East Sea has strong northeast wind at level 6, gusting at level 7 - 8, sea waves are 2 - 3m high, rough seas.
Strong winds and gusts, large waves at sea are likely to affect the operation of ships and other activities.
