Recently, people in lane 39 Tu Lien (Hong Ha ward, Hanoi) have had to live in a state of heavy pollution when the lane was flooded with garbage, the ditches were covered with black water and smelled foul.
This situation lasted for many months, disrupting their daily lives.

People living in alley 39 Tu Lien reported that since the Lunar New Year 2025, household waste and wastewater generated from households and neighboring areas have been continuously dumped into ditches in this alley.
Due to stagnant water flow and increasingly increased waste accumulation, it gives off an unpleasant smell, especially when it rains heavily, dirty water rises, even flooding into people's houses.

"We are miserable because of living next to the ditch. On sunny days, it smells, on rainy days, the water flooded everywhere, many days the black water flooded into the living room", Ms. Tuyet (residing in alley 39 Tu Lien) lamented.
Faced with the above situation, on September 17, the authorities erected barriers to prevent illegal dumping of waste into the ditches and partially filled the polluted canals. However, this solution is only temporary and cannot solve the root problem.

The main reason is said to be the project to reinforce the drainage ditch and embankment of Cluster Nam lagoon, a project of the project to prevent flooding and improve the landscape of Tu Lien Lake implemented since the beginning of 2025, but the construction of alley 39 Tu Lien is still unfinished, causing the flow to be obstructed, waste and dirty water to stagnate seriously.
Ms. Hoa - the owner of a restaurant in lane 39 Tu Lien - said: "Customers coming to the restaurant once had to cover their nose because of the stench. People have to live with mosquitoes and flies. If the canal continues like this, it will greatly affect business and daily life".

Regarding the pollution situation in lane 39 Tu Lien, Mr. Le Hong Thang - Chairman of Hong Ha Ward People's Committee - said that the ward has recorded people's complaints about flooding, environmental pollution and unfinished construction projects in lane 39 Tu Lien.
The Ward People's Committee has directed the Department of Economics, Infrastructure, and Urban Areas to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to inspect, review, and urgently find solutions to handle the situation.
While waiting for long-term solutions, people hope that local authorities will soon implement short-term measures such as dredging ditches, collecting garbage periodically and strictly controlling the situation of illegal dumping of waste.
