Leachate from waste flows out, causing environmental pollution.
About 2km from the landfill, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Sua (residing in Tan Lap 1 commune, Tan Phuoc district, Tien Giang province) said: "No one wants to live near the landfill and breathe in such a polluted environment". Many years have passed, the waste treatment plant project at Tan Lap 1 commune landfill is still on paper, Mr. Sau hopes that the authorities will speed up the progress to soon start construction and put it into use to solve the waste problem.
Recently, the People's Committee of Tien Giang province issued a decision to adjust the investment policy for the waste treatment plant project in Tan Lap 1 commune.
Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Finance (merging the Department of Planning and Investment with the old Department of Finance) to announce the investment policy for the Tan Lap 1 commune waste treatment plant project to the National Bidding Network System, according to the provisions of Clause 2, Article 10, Decree No. 115/2024/ND-CP dated September 16, 2024 of the Government. At the same time, the Department of Agriculture and Environment (merged with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment) was also assigned to organize bidding to select contractors according to regulations. The investment calling period for the project is expected in 2025, while the completion and operation period is expected in the second quarter of 2026.
Previously, on December 1, 2020, the Department of Planning and Investment of Tien Giang province issued document No. 2424 on the notice of invitation to pay attention to the investment project using land at Tan Lap 1 landfill (Tan Phuoc district).
According to this notice, the Department of Planning and Investment invites investors interested in submitting documents to register to implement the waste treatment plant project at Tan Lap 1 landfill (Tan Phuoc district). The investment goal is to treat solid waste from daily use, while gradually treating the amount of waste at the landfill using incineration technology. The project has a land use area of 2 hectares, the project implementation period is expected from 2020 to 2022. However, up to now, no enterprise has been interested in investing.
According to the Tien Giang Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Tien Giang province has two solid waste treatment areas, including the solid waste treatment area in the East (Go Cong Dong district), the solid waste treatment area in the West (Tan Phuoc district).
3 waste treatment plants in the area, including Binh Tan waste treatment plant (Go Cong Tay district), Tan Lap 1 waste treatment plant (Tan Phuoc district), industrial waste treatment plant, hazardous waste collection and treatment.
