The IQAir air quality index application this morning (December 30) ranked Hanoi as the most polluted city in the world.

At 9am this morning, this application ranked Hanoi as the world's top polluted city with an AQI of 240 - purple threshold, followed by Bagdad (Irag), Dhaka (Bangladesh).

Many measuring points recorded air quality at the purple threshold - a threshold very harmful to health such as Quang Ba AQI 267, Ho Tay AQI 292, Vinhome riverside AQI 258, Cu Khoi (Long Bien) AQI 253, Quang Ba AQI 267, Ciputra (Tay Ho) AQI 257, Hoang Quoc Viet AQI 251...

A single measurement point at the brown threshold - a threshold harmful to human health - is Quang Khanh (Tay Ho) with AQI level 340.

Pam Air application also recorded many measurement points with AQI at purple threshold such as Dong Anh district AQI 269, Chua Lang (Dong Da District) AQI 251, Doi Can (Ba Dinh) AQI 285, Phu Dong (Ba Vi) AQI 242...

Synthesis from various inventory studies by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the World Bank and other studies shows that, in terms of the contribution rate of emission sources to the concentration of primary dust PM2.5 at 11 locations in the capital, depending on each location, the contribution rate of the sources accounts for different proportions. Traffic sources (including road dust) are the source with the highest contribution (from 58% - 74%), followed by industrial sources (from 14% - 23%), agricultural sources (from 3.4% - 18.9%), domestic sources and waste incineration sources have the lowest contribution.

Hanoi is planning to reduce emissions from Hanoi's transportation sources, including: Reducing road dust, including increasing road cleaning; Reducing traffic congestion by regulating and dividing traffic reasonably; Zoning traffic and collecting zoning fees; Zoning to restrict motorbike operations; Building low-emission areas, limiting vehicles that emit emissions exceeding the permitted level; Investing in converting vehicles, encouraging public transport...

The AQI is an air quality index that ranges from 0-500, with higher numbers indicating higher levels of pollution and health impacts. Readings above 300 are considered unhealthy, while 0-50 indicate good air quality.
