Recently, on the personal Facebook page of Dr. Nguyen Van Tien - Head of Surgery Department 2, Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, shared a story of themselves and colleagues saving the life of a 12-year-old girl, in the high sky without emergency rooms or modern equipment.
That day was June 26, Dr. Tien and his colleagues flew to Hanoi to attend the workshop.
Among the hundreds of flights that have passed through my life, I have never experienced such a sense of silence, Dr. Tien wrote. Without emergency rooms, without modern machinery, only the heart of a doctor and the hands are used to saving people.
The flight was at a stable altitude, the seat belt signal was turned off, and the ear rang out urgently: "Is there a doctor on the plane?". Doctor Tien and colleague Pham Ngoc Trung immediately stood up. A female flight attendant took them to the end of the cabin, where the girl was lying in a tucked breeze in her heart, purple and shaky. The child shouted: "You... can't breathe... like someone strangled you".
Seeing the typical signs of "fertility hand" of acute blood calcium deficiency, Dr. Tien immediately recognized the dangerous situation. But in the middle of high weather, without vaccines, without monitoring monters, there is only fragile hope. Doctor Tien almost shouted: "Is there anyone with calcium tablets?". A passenger pointed out a drug tube with the words CALCI.
The two calcium tablets are mixed into the water. The child took a small sip. A few minutes later, the baby's lips turned pink, his breathing slowed down, and his eyesight increased to look at the doctor. I know, I have kept a life, Dr. Tien wrote.
The flight crew invited them to the merchant's compartment to conveniently monitor the child. The first time I set foot in that compartment, the coffee and thank you did not warm the doctor's heart with the closed eyes, the small hands were shaking. I dont feel hungry. It felt like I had just finished a treat of rich and flavorful lacquer paint.
When the plane landed, the ground doctor was waiting. The child was moved safely. Before leaving, the child looked back, her eyes wide open. Without words, the doctor understands that it is "the most beautiful thank you".
Without lights, without cameras, only one life is preserved, in the high sky. "If there were no me, no colleagues, no people carrying calcium tablets by chance... then who knows what would have happened. Maybe God is still kind, kind to the doctor, he is a bit silly, but always carries a heart ready to go, Dr. Tien shared.
