Quang Tri - Hearing cries for help, a male student bravely rushed into the deep sea to rescue a baby girl swept away by sea waves.

On June 22, information from the People's Committee of Cua Tung commune (Quang Tri province) said that local authorities are coordinating with Cua Tung High School to carry out procedures to commend and reward Le Duc Trung (born in 2009, residing in Liem Cong Tay village, Cua Tung commune) for his brave act of rescuing a drowning person.

Previously, at about 2 pm on June 21, the family of Ms. Pham Thi Thuong (born in 1985, residing in Nam Hong Linh ward, Ha Tinh province) came to visit and swim at Da Nhay beach area (belonging to Bac Trach commune, Quang Tri province).

At more than 2 pm, Ms. Thuong's two young children, N.D. N. P (born in 2015) and N.K.A (born in 2017), went to the beach area to play. Just about 2 minutes later, a large wave suddenly rushed in, sweeping both children away in the helplessness and panic of the mother.

At this time, Le Duc Trung and his family were sitting eating at a row of restaurants by the sea when they heard Ms. Thuong's cries for help. Looking towards the sea, Trung discovered two small figures struggling.

Immediately, Trung and his family rushed out to sea. The nephew was closer to the shore, so fortunately his family promptly rescued him and brought him ashore safely. N.K.A was swept away by a whirlpool 80m to 100m from the shore.

Without a moment of hesitation, nor having time to take off his clothes, the 12th-grade male student immediately jumped into the sea, overcoming the fierce waves to approach the victim. With courage and swimming skills, Trung approached the little girl who was gradually exhausted, skillfully supporting the victim to swim against the fast-flowing water to reach the shore.

Bringing the baby girl to the safe sandbank, Trung was also exhausted. “When I got to the shore, I was too tired, so I vomited continuously, I had to sit on the ground for a while to stabilize myself again” - Trung recalled.

Too moved when her two children were saved from the dead, Ms. Thuong hugged her children tightly and choked up, stuffing some money into Trung's hand to thank him. However, Trung refused and politely said that saving people is what he has to do.

Currently, Ms. Thuong's family has returned to Ha Tinh safely. Still not over the shock and full of gratitude for Trung's courage, Ms. Thuong wrote a deep thank you on social networks.

Attached to the article is an image of the emotional diary page of N.K.A's daughter: "We were playing near the shore when suddenly the waves pulled both brothers out far away... The two brothers jumped down and rescued the two brothers to the shore... Mother hugged the two brothers, then mother gave him money but he didn't take it. Thank you for saving us".
