Don't let wild birds escape this trap and fall into another trap

Lê Thanh Phong |

Le Thuy Commune Police, Quang Tri coordinated with forest rangers to patrol Loc An field, preventing illegal wild bird hunting.

On September 10, local functional forces organized patrols in areas at risk of trapping and catching birds and storks; and at the same time propagated and mobilized people not to hunt, trade, transport, or store wild birds and notify functional agencies when violations are detected.

But if we just stop at finding traps to dismantle, today dismantling this one, tomorrow the hunter places another one, then the battle to protect wild birds will fall into a vicious circle.

Because, the trapper knows wild birds are natural resources that need to be protected, but they still set traps because of benefits. One trap is removed, if benefits remain, another trap will appear.

Therefore, to solve it from the root, it is necessary to find the trapper, the hired hunter, the buyer, the seller and the consumption place.

If there are no buyers, the birds caught cannot turn into money. If there is no place to consume them, hunters will hardly have the motivation to continue.

To eliminate hunting, it is necessary to cut off that chain of benefits.

The law has regulations on managing and protecting forest animals and wild animals. Handling must be based on the correct species, quantity, nature, level of violation and current regulations.

It is necessary to change the approach, not only dismantling traps but also handling the act of setting traps; not only catching hunters but also tracking down buyers and sellers; not only clearing the scene but also eliminating the consumption market.

People also need to become "eyes and ears" protecting nature. A timely call can save many wildlife lives.

In particular, wild bird hunting should not be seen as a normal livelihood, "catching a few birds does not affect anything". One person sets dozens of traps, many people set traps together, lasting through many seasons, will create silent destruction.

A mother bird is trapped, and the baby birds in the nest starve to death.

Wild birds are part of the ecosystem. The decline of bird species not only loses the vitality of the countryside, but also affects the natural balance.

Extermination methods, if they occur frequently, can cause losses that are too late to realize when realized.

Patrol to remove traps must be done, but the ultimate goal must be that there are no more people who dare to set traps, no more people who dare to buy and sell, and no more wild bird market.

It is necessary to make hunters understand that setting traps is a violation, selling birds is a violation, buying birds is also aiding and abetting violations.

Strong enough sanctions, strict enough enforcement, and the community joining hands to protect wildlife, new fields will truly become habitats for wild birds.
