Phu Cat High School No. 3 returns 7 TVs and the story of eliminating illegal fees

Phu Cat High School No. 3 (Binh Dinh) has removed and returned the TV set after the Parents' Representative Committee mobilized them to do so because of overcharging.

Previously, parents reported that the Parents' Association of Phu Cat High School No. 3 mobilized money to buy televisions for teaching; the Parents' Association of Nguyen Huu Quang High School mobilized money to build a student parking lot.

After receiving this information, Mr. Dao Duc Tuan - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Binh Dinh province - requested the Principals of high schools and affiliated schools; Director of the Provincial Continuing Education Center to review and inspect the revenues for the 2024 - 2025 school year, to rectify the situation of mobilizing contributions of revenues outside of regulations.

Following the direction of the Director of the Department of Education and Training, Phu Cat High School No. 3 has dismantled and returned 7 televisions to the Parents' Association. Nguyen Huu Quang High School has requested the Parents' Association to stop soliciting donations to support the construction of a student parking lot.

The situation of overcharging in schools has been going on for many years, the press and public have spoken out many times but it has not been stopped.

On October 2, Lao Dong Newspaper reported on the case of overcharging at Hai Thuong Primary School, Nghi Son, Thanh Hoa, with a socialized fee of 250,000 VND/student. This is not the only case, but there are many other schools where parents are upset about overcharging.

Many schools have come up with the so-called "socialization" to collect money from parents. For example, the teacher who "heated up" public opinion last week about asking for money to buy a laptop, also answered the press that she thought asking to buy a laptop was normal, in line with the policy of socializing education.

But the case of the teacher mentioned above is an individual, and taking advantage of the name of socialization for the Parents' Representative Committee to collect money from parents not in accordance with the principle of voluntariness is the matter of the school, of an organization representing parents.

Returning to the information that two schools in Binh Dinh have seriously implemented the correction of their mistakes when they collected money not in accordance with the voluntary principle, it shows that the local education leaders are very strict and determined. If everywhere is handled strictly like that, the situation of forcing parents to pay money to schools will be limited.

However, the root of collecting money from parents in the name of socializing education is from the establishment of the Parents' Representative Board, as many cases clearly show. Therefore, abolishing the Parents' Representative Board will eliminate overcharging.
