HCMC - Tu Du Hospital inaugurated the European standard Neonatal Resuscitation Area, improving the quality of health care for children, especially premature babies.

On February 21, Tu Du Hospital celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment and inauguration of the European-standard Neonatal Resuscitation Area.

Doctor Tran Ngoc Hai - Director of Tu Du Hospital - said that the hospital is a safe medical facility with the maternal mortality rate always maintained at a lower level than in the region and the world. The maternal mortality rate at the hospital has decreased from 9:00,000 cases in 2000 to only 2.9/100,000 births in 2024, significantly lower than the average in South Asia (172/100,000 cases) and the world (227/100,000 cases).

Tu Du Hospital also inaugurated the European Standard Neonatal Resuscitation Area, which creates miracles for premature babies. Every day, at the hospital, there are 220 cases of children who need care, the resuscitation area has contributed greatly to increasing the survival rate of premature babies, especially extremely young babies from 24-28 weeks.

According to Associate Professor Tang Chi Thuong - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, neonatal resuscitation has 4 levels, Tu Du Hospital has reached level 4. All babies born prematurely to fully born, suffering from very serious illnesses that require endoscopic resuscitation, requiring surgical intervention can be done at the hospital.

Currently, this unit does not have a pediatric surgeon but is fully implemented at level 4 because it has the advantage of a leading obstetrics and gynecology hospital in coordination.

Also at the ceremony, the family of 5 children who were successfully operated on fetal heart disease met and sent their gratitude to the doctors in general and the fetal heart intervention team of Tu Du Hospital and Children's Hospital 1 (HCMC).
