According to information from the Hospital, pregnant woman N.T. B (36 years old) was transferred to the emergency room in critical condition after a traffic accident. The results of computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed that the patient had cerebral hematoma, brain contusion and temporomandibular fracture.
Doctors assessed that these are severe brain damages, with the risk of leading to increased intracranial pressure, brain parenchymal compression, respiratory failure, deep coma and threatening the patient's life at any time.
The situation becomes more complicated when the patient is 36 weeks pregnant. Severe trauma to the mother can directly affect the fetus, increasing the risk of acute fetal failure, premature ejaculation, premature birth or fetal heart failure.
Faced with the emergency situation, Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital organized a hospital-wide consultation with the participation of experts from many specialties to come up with an optimal treatment plan. After comprehensively assessing the patient's condition, the doctors agreed on the priority goal of ensuring the safety of both mother and child.
Obstetricians performed a cesarean section surgery. During the surgery, the pregnant woman developed poor uterine contractility and a very high risk of postpartum hemorrhage. The surgical team quickly performed bilateral uterine artery ligation to control bleeding, successfully preserving the uterus and avoiding dangerous complications for the patient.
After the baby was safely taken out, the pregnant woman continued to be monitored and treated in-depth by doctors of the General Surgery Department and the Intensive Care Unit for traumatic brain injury.
Thanks to the close coordination between many specialties, the patient's neurological condition gradually improved, overcoming the critical stage and actively recovering. As a result, a baby girl weighing 3.2 kg was born healthy. After a period of treatment, both mother and child's health stabilized and they were discharged from the hospital in the joy of the family and medical team.
