On June 16, leaders of Quang Nam Regional General Hospital said that the unit is receiving and treating 43 cases suspected of food poisoning related to the use of banh mi thit cha.
According to the hospital, from June 13 to 15, there were 21 patients hospitalized with abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever and vomiting. By the evening of June 15 and the morning of June 16, the number of cases continued to increase rapidly with 22 more cases recorded, bringing the total number of patients to 43 people.

Through initial epidemiological investigation, all patients had eaten banh mi thit cha at the same business establishment near Tong market, Dien Ban ward, Da Nang. The time of food use was determined to be on the morning of June 13, while the symptoms appeared only a few hours later.
Notably, among the patients being treated, there are 22 children being monitored at the Department of Pediatrics. The remaining cases are assigned to be treated at the Departments of Infectious Diseases, Gastroenterology and Emergency Medicine.
The patients were hospitalized with symptoms of severe abdominal pain, high fever, vomiting and diarrhea many times. The hospital took samples for testing to identify the cause of poisoning and implemented active treatment measures.
According to hospital representatives, the patients' health is currently basically stable, and no severe cases have been recorded.
Regarding the incident, functional agencies are urgently inspecting the bread business, tracing the origin of raw materials and clarifying the reasons why dozens of people had to be hospitalized after meals.
