In just a short time, Ho Chi Minh City continuously recorded cases of food poisoning with a large number of people suffering from food poisoning.
For example, in the two days of April 8-9, many students at the same school showed abnormal symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting and fever. Functional agencies have taken food samples, checked processing procedures and conducted epidemiological investigations to determine the cause.
Most recently, according to information from the Ho Chi Minh City health sector, many students at Binh Quoi Tay Elementary School showed symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, fever and digestive disorders after semi-boarding meals. Among these, Gia Dinh People's Hospital received the largest number of students hospitalized. The students were mainly hospitalized with symptoms of fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Initial test results showed Salmonella bacteria detected in the stool samples of some students, suspected to be the cause of this collective poisoning. Currently, functional agencies are still continuing to investigate the related food source.
During prolonged hot days, digestive diseases tend to increase, especially infections and food poisoning. Dr. Le Dinh Quang - Deputy Head of the Department in charge of operating the Department of Endoscopy - Functional Exploration, Gia Dinh People's Hospital said that at this time the hospital receives many cases of digestive disorders related to bacteria and bacterial toxins.
According to Dr. Quang, patients are often hospitalized with many different symptoms. Some cases only have mild digestive disorders, but there are also people with frequent vomiting, acute diarrhea or gastroenteritis. These symptoms are often related to bacterial toxins or due to bacteria that can invade and damage the digestive tract.
Notably, doctors warn people not to arbitrarily use diarrhea medication without a doctor's prescription. "In cases where bacteria damage the digestive tract, using diarrhea medication can cause bacteria to remain in the body, creating conditions for them to develop more, making the disease worse," Dr. Quang emphasized.
According to experts, when bacteria cause disease through toxins, the body can excrete toxins through diarrhea and gradually stabilize. However, if they are invasive bacteria, they can cause local infections in the digestive tract. If not treated promptly, bacteria can enter the blood, spread to many organs and cause multi-organ damage.
This condition is especially dangerous for the elderly, young children or people with underlying diseases. When the disease progresses severely, patients may face the risk of serious complications, even life-threatening.
Doctors recommend that when symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, prolonged abdominal pain appear in hot weather, people should go to medical facilities for assessment and appropriate treatment, avoiding self-medication that complicates the disease.
