On July 30, Hospital 199 of the Ministry of Public Security announced that the unit had successfully performed two limb-lengthening surgeries for Ms. L.H (from Quang Tri) and Mr. V.D (from Da Nang).
The surgeries were performed by a team of doctors from Hospital 199, including Dr. Phung Cao Cuong, Dr. Nguyen Duy Khanh, and Dr. Vu Van Diep (Department of Orthopedic Trauma - Burns - Sports Medicine) with technical support from Dr. Hoang Ngoc Son - Head of the Department of Required Treatment, Viet Duc Hospital.
The patients were thoroughly prepared before surgery, applying advanced technology and receiving structured post-surgery therapy guidance. The entire limb-lengthening process includes at least three surgeries, 3-4 months of wearing an external fixator, and 3 months of training for the bone to fully heal at the lengthened site. The medical team will closely monitor the patient's recovery process to ensure optimal surgical results.
Dr. Hoang Ngoc Son stated that the LON (Lengthening over Nails) technique has brought significant advancements. This method helps reduce the time of wearing an external fixator, decreases complications, and increases post-surgery recovery ability. This technique opens new opportunities for those wishing to improve their height or treat leg shortening issues due to medical conditions or injuries.
"Cosmetic limb-lengthening surgery to increase height has been performed at several hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. However, in the Central - Central Highlands region, this is the first time it has been performed," added Dr. Phung Cao Cuong, Deputy Head of the Department of Orthopedic Trauma - Burns - Sports Medicine, Hospital 199.
It can be seen that the limb-lengthening technique has marked a significant advancement in the field of orthopedic trauma. It meets the needs of those who are self-conscious about their height and helps patients with leg shortening sequelae to be treated right in the Central region without having to travel far to Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi.
The outstanding advantages of the LON method are: The time of wearing an external fixator is reduced from 6-9 months to 3-4 months; Increased post-surgery recovery ability, patients can walk normally after 5-6 months; Reduced surgical complications such as limb misalignment and fracture collapse.
