LD26176: Electroshock causes single father to lose labor capacity, young child in distress

HOÀNG LỘC |

Vinh Long - Electric shock causes a young father to suffer severe injuries, young children and elderly parents face countless difficulties.

The small house located at the end of the hamlet in Truong Tho hamlet, Quoi An commune (Vinh Long province) has become deserted since Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh (born 1995) had the accident. The sound of children calling for their father, the sound of old mothers sighing every day makes the atmosphere in the house even heavier.

About two months ago, while working as a roofer for people, Mr. Thanh unfortunately was electrocuted and fell from a height. After being rescued at Nguyen Van Thu Hospital, he continued to be transferred to Vinh Long General Hospital and then Cho Ray Hospital for treatment.

Lying on a hammock with his arms contracted, all daily activities had to be taken care of by his elderly mother, Mr. Thanh choked up and said he never thought a labor accident would push his whole family into such a miserable situation today.

I just hope to recover soon to go to work to support my parents and young children. The doctor said that more surgery is needed. The treatment costs are increasing day by day, while there is nothing worth selling in the house," Mr. Thanh choked up.

To date, he has undergone two surgeries with a total cost of more than 20 million VND and still has to use a liquid aspirator in his arm due to necrosis, costing more than 5 million VND per week.

Since the accident occurred, the owner where he works has supported 10 million VND to cover hospital fees, but that money quickly ran out due to medicine, food and prolonged treatment costs.

The tragedy became even more compounded when Mr. Thanh was the only main breadwinner of the family. Husband and wife divorced, he alone raised a 3-year-old child, and also took on the responsibility of taking care of his elderly parents. No longer able to work, the whole family almost lost their only source of income.

Mr. Sau Minh, a neighbor of the family, said that Mr. Thanh's situation is that he does not have land for production, and is the main breadwinner for the whole family. His father suffered a stroke, was blind in one eye, and his elderly mother was often sick.

Before the accident, Mr. Thanh diligently worked as a hired laborer to support his parents and 3-year-old son. Now he has lost his ability to work, the whole family is in a deadlock, neighbors can only share a little rice and a little money because everyone is in difficulty," Mr. Minh added.

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy - Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Quoi An commune said that the locality has grasped Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh's situation. This is a household with very difficult economic conditions, no production land, many years living mainly on Mr. Thanh's hired income.

According to Ms. Thuy, after the accident, the family's economy almost fell into a deadlock when the main worker lost his ability to work, while his parents were both old, in poor health and still had to take care of their young grandchildren.

The locality hopes that philanthropists, businesses and readers near and far will join hands to support so that Mr. Thanh's family has more conditions to continue treatment. Each sharing, whether big or small, will add hope to help the young father overcome the upheaval soon and return to take care of his young children and elderly parents," Ms. Bich Thuy expressed her hope.
