On August 20, the Russian Republic of Dagestan said that General Esedulla Abachev, deputy commander of the Russian Northern Army during the campaign in Ukraine, was seriously injured in a UAV attack near the border of Kursk province.
Mr. Sergei Melikov, leader of the Republic of Dagestan, said: "He is being treated at one of the country's leading military medical centers. Doctors assessed the condition as serious but stable.
According to information from the Ukrainian military intelligence, General Abachev and his convoy were ambushed while moving in the Kursk region during the period of August 16-17. This is believed to be a deliberate attack on one of the highest-ranking officers of the Russian forces in the North.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet made an official comment on the incident. Previously released images show General Abachev conducting aunds at a combat command post of the Russian army.
The airstrike shows that Ukraine continues to promote the use of UAVs in strikes on key Russian military targets, even in areas deep within its territory.
