Russia launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Ukraine on the night of August 20, in the largest attack since mid-July.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko shared on August 21: "Last night, Ukraine suffered a large-scale tongatt attack: drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, even hypersonic weapons."
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia had launched 574 drones and 40 missiles. The country's air defense units shot down 546 drones and 31 missiles.
"One person was killed and two injured in a combined attack using a UAV and cruise missile in Lviv," said Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the military government in the western part of the city.
Russian fire also injured 12 people in the city of Mukachevo, near the border with Hungary and Slovakia.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry said it had destroyed "49 Ukrainian-style drones" in many areas.
The latest airstrike follows a series of diplomatic moves to end the conflict in Ukraine by US President Donald Trump.
The US president met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, before meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders in Washington for talks.
On August 21, President Zelensky said that his meeting with President Putin could take place after security guarantees are agreed upon.
We want to understand the security mechanism within 7-10 days, Zelensky said.
According to Mr. Zelensky, after receiving security guarantees, Ukraine aims to hold a tripartite meeting with Mr. Putin and Mr. Trump.
He mentioned Switzerland, Austria or Türkiye as possible locations for leaders' meetings.
Mr Zelensky also said that Kiev hopes for a " strong response" from Washington if President Putin is not willing to negotiate bilaterally with him.
In a sharing on August 21, Mr. Zelensky revealed that Ukraine has tested a Flamingo long-range cruise missile, which can attack targets at a distance of 3,000km. Mass production of Flamingo missiles could begin in February.
"The missile has undergone successful tests. Currently, this is our most successful missile, capable of flying 3,000km away, a significant number," he said.
